Thursday's HS golf highlights: Garaway girls win IVC Preseason; Hiland boys claim Pirate Invitational

Sophomore Sammi Miller fired a 75 and Sydni Prysi added a 79 as the Garaway girls golf team won the Inter-Valley Conference Preseason Tournament hosted by Tuscarawas Valley at Wilkshire Golf Course at Bolivar on Thursday.

Garaway won with a 332 score as Brooklyn Numbers followed with an 88 and Olivia Immel added a 90.

The host Trojans finished second with a 352 as senior Susan Thompson shot a 78 and Kylie Rohr added an 83, while Autumn Rohr carded an 92 and Kathryn Secoy followed with a 99.

Indian Valley came in third with a 411 as it edged Claymont's 412.

Kaylie Wrather led Indian Valley with a 94. Abbie Barrett and Emily Jones each shot a 101, while Lori Lute posted a 115.

Alivia Edwards paced Claymont with an 83 and Jocelyn Scalambrino posted a 95, while Hailey Fellows followed with a 110 and Emma Woodward had a 114.

Newcomerstown posted a 451 led by Melanie Gibson's 95, and Ridgewood finished with a 516 led by Gianna Menapace's 120.

Sandy Valley, Malvern and East Canton also participated, but did not count in the team scoring.

Malvern's Lauren Brown shot an 88. Sandy Valley was led by Marissa Moriconi with a 101, and Mia Steigerwald paced East Canton with a 104.

Circle K Invitational

New Philadelphia's Sydney Devore used a pitching wedge to hit a hole-in-one on the 105-yard par-3 12th hole during the Circle K Invitational at EagleSticks.

Devore shot a 1-under-par 69 to break her own school record.

It was her first career hole-in-one.

Emma Menapace shot a 87 and Emi Cerda carded a 114, while Kelce Wing had a 121.

Carrollton Triangular

Carrollton kicked off its season with a triangular win over Alliance and Edison at par 35 Carroll Meadows.

The Warriors won with a 184 followed by Alliance with a 224 and Edison with a 244.

Ashlee Garner led Carrollton with a 39 and Claire Hostetler posted a 42, while Phoebe Moore recorded a 51 and Olivia Nist added a 52.

Anna Eversdyke led Alliance with a 45 and Zoe Shell paced Edison with a 57.

Dover 192, Fairless 218

Riley Schie fired a 40 to lead Dover to a win over host Fairless at The Elms Country Club.

Ava Adams added a 46, while Izzy Lint and Sara Klar each added 53s.

Kylee Moore led Fairless with a 48 and Brianna Schumacher carded a 49, while Ayza Raja added a 58. Paige Culler and Kaydee Goff each shots 63s.

Boys golf

Pirate Invitational

Hiland claimed the Pirate Invitational hosted by Inter-Valley Conference rival Garaway at Black Gold.

Carter Mishler was the medalist as he fired a 70 to lead Hiland's 299.

Brookston Hummel had a 74 followed by Garret Shoup's 76 and Kenny Weaver's 79.

North Canton Hoover was the runner-up with a 314 led by runner-up medalist Mario Tortorella, who shot a 71.

New Philadelphia finished a strong third with a 320 as Shad Kenily led the Quakers with a 76.

Louis Devore and Austin Erickson each added 81s, while Nathan Menapace posted an 82.

Host Garaway finished fourth with a 328 led by Charles Beachy's 76 and Trace Gibson's 78. Carter Miller recorded an 83 and Emmet Royer finished with a 91.

Indian Valley carded a 364 as Issac Stokey posted an 85 and Austen Gunn added an 87.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic had a 404 led by Piper Olson's 92 and Zane Douglas' 98.

Sandy Valley (413) was led by John Wood's 85 and Tusky Valley (523) got an 81 from Connor Gardner.

Circle K Invitational

On the boys side of the Circle K Invitational, Dover finished a strong second out of 20 teams with a 308.

Carter Begue led the Crimson Tornadoes with a 72. Zach Dale and Chase Coyne each added 78s, while Dylan Grewell posted an 80.

Marietta's A team won with a 300.

West Holmes finished in fifth place with a 319.

Hunter Ellis and Grady Toye shared top team honors with 78s respectively. Brody Allen shot an 81 and Trey Baker an 82 to round out the scoring for the Knights.

Charlie Kilpatrick fired a 70 to lead Ridgewood's 362. Cooper King and Benny Shook each added 94s and Zach Evin carded a 104.

Jack Porter of West Muskingum was medalist with a sizzling 64.

Carrollton 151, Canton South 207

Jaxon Rinkes fired a 34 and Colton Moore had a 35 as Carrollton opened its season with an Eastern Buckeye Conference win over visiting Canton South at Carroll Meadows.

John Birong added a 39 and Cayden Rininger posted a 43 for the winners.

Ethan Kopp led Canton South in its opener with a 50.

Meadowbrook Meet

Fort Frye downed host Meadowbrook 385-393 in five team event at Salt Fork.

Conotton Valley and River View competed, but did not count in the team scoring.

Scoring for the Rockets were Gaige Galigher (92), Justin Lambert (93) and Sean O’Connor (93).

Scoring for the Black Bears were Thad Cox (112), Josh Woolard (121) and Peyton Everhart (132).
